Chargers fate could be decided today

The stakeholders of the team had been handed a two-week period in mid-August by the IPL governing council to give an assurance that they could still continue running the franchise.

The Board of Control for Cricket in Indias (BCCI) working committee will meet on Tuesday in New Delhi to decide the fate of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Deccan Chargers.

The stakeholders of the team had been handed a two-week period in mid-August by the IPL governing council to give an assurance that they could still continue running the franchise.

According to a top BCCI official, the working committee will deliberate in detail the future course of action regarding Deccan Chargers.

The committee will decide whether the Chargers should be given more time to sort out financial issues or whether a re-auction has to be held. There is also a possibility that the BCCI will start looking for new buyers for the Chargers, the BCCI official said.

However, the official admitted that there was a concern about whether or not they will be able to find new owners for the team if the need arises.

We don’t know whether an auction is advisable at the moment. We are also unsure whether we will get a new buyer. We will have to take a consensus of all members, the official added.
