Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has said it is only matter of time before the riches of owner Sheikh Mansour drives the club to win the Champions League, which is the ultimate rich man’s game.

City would face a daunting task when they face nine-time European champions Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday in their first game of the Champions League’s group stage.

But as City prepare to face Real in the opening game of Group D; Mancini claimed that his club’s progress would ultimately deliver Champions League glory.

“If you drive a Ferrari you can win,if you drive a Fiat Cinquecento, maybe not. We now have a good team and we have played together for a few years,so I am sure we will win the Champions League trophy in the future,” the Telegraph quoted Mancini,as saying.

“I don’t know when, but at some stage, yes, the club will win it. It is very important to do well in Champions League for the club and the players. For me personally,it is not important,it is important to the club. I am the manager and it is clear that I want to do well, but we have to work hard and do well in a lot of things,” he added.

City’s debut season in the competition ended with them suffering elimination at the group stage, despite amassing 10 points in a section containing Bayern Munich,Napoli and Villarreal last term, and Mancini said it was due to his side’s inexperience in the competition.

“As a team,we don’t have the same experience as Bayern or Real in the Champions League,” Mancini said.

“We played very well in the first 30 minutes against Bayern, created three chances to score, but if you don’t score,it can be difficult, and tonight will be the same,” he added.
