Mahendra Singh Dhoni is no stranger to birthday celebrations in the Caribbean. Back in 2011,the Indian captain had been in store for a pleasant surprise at the Fort Young Hotel in Roseau,Dominica. While India prepared to face the West Indies in the third Test of the three-match series, his wife Sakshi had hijacked the hotel kitchen and spent the whole of July 7 preparing a three-course Indian feast.
A lavish menu that had included various appetizers, entrees including biryani and butter chicken, and a bunch of Indian desserts. It was exactly what the homesick Indians had wanted back then following a gruelling tour across the islands, and the entire team had celebrated their skippers 30th birthday with raucous cheer behind closed doors. While the party was private, the feast wasnt. And some of the Indian journalists present at Fort Young also had a taste of Mrs Dhonis culinary expertise.
Sakshi wasnt around when Dhoni brought up his 32nd birthday on Sunday in Port of Spain. But there was no lack of festivity as Dwayne Bravo took over the mantle of making the most his Chennai Super Kings CSK skippers special day by throwing a more Trini-style party at his house in the outskirts of the countrys capital.
Rather than a home-cooked meal, the focus this time was on partying or,as the locals call it,limin in true Trini fashion with lots of good food, music, dance and a lot of banter.
CSK theme
The entire West Indian team was present at the party along with the Indians as well as the whos who of Trinidads social circles. The responsibility of bringing the cake was thrust upon the young yet broad shoulders of Jason Holder, who ensured that it had a CSK theme to it. The cake resembled Dhonis Chennai IPL jersey with the number 7 and MSD written on it and before long found its way all over the Indian skippers face and hair.
Dhoni later on thanked Bravo for the party on Twitter and also revealed how the West Indians present had wanted him to let his hair down.
Thanks everyone specially Bravo for the lovely evening and the soft cake all over my face and hair. All West Indian players and friends present were like no no u dont celebrate like tht,I said its just the beginning, he wrote, before tweeting a picture of his icing-smeared face, calling it cake therapy.
