Petkovic again needed to go the distance as she beat former French and U.S. Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 4-6 6-4 6-1. This is the first tournament that Ive been able to really keep up my intensity and keep up my focus. I think Ive played two good matches, Petkovic said after setting up a clash with Czech Lucie Safarova in the third round.
In the mens singels,Rafael Nadal edged past Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 6-4,7-6 (3),with Italian Fabio Fognini and American John Isner joining him in the third round. Fognini crushed Lleyton Hewitt 6-0,6-2.
Leander Paes and Sania Mirza moved into the quarterfinals in the mens doubles and womens doubles events respectively. Top seeds Paes and Daniel Nestor eased past Americans John Isner and Sam Querrey 6-2,6-2 in their opening round saving all three break points they faced while breaking their opponents twice in each set.
