6 killed,37 injured in China blast

The blast turned the cafe into "complete ruins",destroying windows of nearby buildings.

At least six people were killed and 37 others injured when an explosion ripped through an internet cafe in southwest China’s Guizhou Province,officials said on Sunday.

The explosion occurred at around 10:30 p.m. local time on Saturday night in the downtown area of Kaili City in Miao-Dong Autonomous Prefecture of Qiandongnan,Guizhou’s provincial public security department said.

Rescuers said after completing search operations that six bodies have been pulled out and 37 people wounded in the incident. The condition of 11 injured was stated to be serious.

The powerful blast had turned the cafe into “complete ruins” and also destroyed windows of nearby residential buildings,they said.

Local police are yet to confirm how many people were inside the building when the incident occurred and identify the victims,as the customer registration book might have been burnt in the fire,the official Xinhua news agency reported. “The cyber cafe,with 140 computers,has been in operation with license for many years,” police said.

It is not yet clear who carried out the explosion. Experts are still investigating the site to ascertain the cause of the blast.
