1 in 6 grandparents think their kids have failed as parents

Many grandparents believe their grandchildren are ill-disciplined and treated leniently.

Many grandparents believe their grandchildren are ill-disciplined,bad-mannered,disrespectful and treated too leniently.

According to a survey,as many as one in six older people thinks their adult offspring have failed as parents,reports the Daily.

A quarter said that their children are too lenient and three out of 10 say their grandchildren lack any discipline at all.

Four in 10 say their children shy away from disciplining their grandchildren for fear of upsetting them or appearing too harsh.

The magazine Mature Times asked 500 grandparents about the quality of their parenting compared to their offsprings.

It found three in 10 say their children are worse parents than they themselves were.

Two-thirds said their grandchildren are not as harshly disciplined as their own kids are. And a quarter of the older generation say tougher discipline should be used.

One in five believes they should have better manners,12 per cent look for greater academic support and 19 per cent say they should respect their elders. One in six polled says their grand children lack any form of respect for their parents.

Three-quarters of old folk say that when offspring misbehaved as teenagers one telling-off was enough.

But a third say their grandchildren need to be told off repeatedly to get the message.
