Under pressure from the Opposition, the Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday ordered a CBI inquiry into the murder of IPS officer Narendra Kumar Singh.

Earlier, the Assembly was adjourned for the day following a ruckus created by opposition Congress demanding a CBI probe into the killing of Singh who was allegedly mowed down by the mining mafia in Morena on March 8.

As the House assembled today after the Holi break, the Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh raised the issue during Question Hour.

As a mark of protest the Congress members sported a black scarf on the occasion. Ajay said the Opposition has given a notice for the adjournment motion on the issue of the killing.

Singh’s widow and his father are also demanding a CBI probe in this regard,he said.

He said since Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was present in the House,he should make an announcement recommending the probe by the central agency into the murder.

Chouhan urged the Speaker to suspend Question Hour and take up the motion for discussion, saying his government was prepared for any debate on the issue.

The chief minister also said that the Opposition could raise their demand for the CBI probe during the discussion on the adjournment motion.

After this, the Speaker admitted the motion for discussion given by Congress leaders, including Dr Govind Singh,Ram Niwas Rawat,Ajay Singh,Mahendra Singh Kalukheda and Choudhry Rakesh Singh Chaturvedi.

However, the Opposition led by Congress’s Arif Aqeel trooped into the well of the House demanding immediate announcement recommending a CBI probe into the murder before the adjournment motion could be taken up for discussion.

Despite repeated pleas from the Chair to allow the House to take up the discussion, the Opposition members did not relent and continuously raised slogans in front of the Speaker’s podium.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra and Industries Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya observed that it was happening for the first time that adjournment motion is being taken up on a single issue and despite that the Opposition is not allowing the House to take it up for discussion.

Amid the ruckus, the Speaker took up the scheduled business of the House when the Opposition members refused to budge from their stand while Finance Minister Raghavji gave his reply.

When the Opposition persisted with its demand for a CBI investigation and stayed put in the well for almost an hour, the Speaker adjourned the House till tomorrow.
