The Uttar Pradesh Police have sought a lie-detector test on BSP MLA Shekhar Tiwari and four others accused in the murder of PWD Engineer M K Gupta and claimed they had “enough evidence” of their involvement in the killing.
“We have moved an application in the Auraiya district court for a polygraph test of all the five accused arrested last week. If permission is granted, we will take them to Lucknow or Agra for the test,” Deputy Inspector General of Police, Kanpur range, S N Sabat said on Tuesday.
Experts from the Agra Forensic Lab are travelling to Auraiya for a detailed examination of Gupta’s house, where he was allegedly beaten up.
“Though the police have already searched the house, the experts would carry out a minute examination to search for further evidence,” he said.
The DIG said that the police would also speak to family members of the slain engineer. Gupta’s family had gone to Lakhimpur Kheri for the engineer’s last rites.
“We have enough evidence against the MLA and his accomplices,” Sabat claimed.
Gupta was killed on December 24 allegedly by BSP MLA Tiwari and his supporters. He had reportedly refused to pay a “huge sum” for the birthday celebrations of Chief Minister Mayawati, a charge denied by the state Government.
Gupta’s autopsy revealed that he was subjected to electric shocks and brutally beaten up before dying of brain haemorrhage.
