
Questioning the UPA Government’s ‘aam aadmi’ character, BJP leader L K Advani on Wednesday dubbed the decision to hike fuel prices as another act of insensitivity and betrayal by an ‘already unpopular’ government.
“The UPA government’s anti-aam aadmi character has been starkly exposed yet again by its decision today to hike the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG,” the Leader of the Opposition said.
He said the poor and the middle class have already been groaning under the burden of unprecedented rise in prices of all essential goods and services, caused by the mismanagement of the economy by the government.
“And now, in another act of insensitivity and betrayal, the government has taken a decision that is bound to have a cascading effect on prices. This will further impoverish crores of ordinary Indian families,” he added.
Noting that all the oft-repeated promises of the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister to control inflation have failed, he said by hiking fuel prices “an unpopular government has invited fresh wrath of the people.”
Meanwhile, BJP Deputy Leader in Lok Sabha V K Malhotra said the party would raise the issue of the ‘steep rise’ effected in fuel prices in Parliament when it meets for the Monsoon Session.
“In Parliament the Government is in a minority on this issue and majority of the members oppose the hike. This is a great betrayal of the common man,” he told
