It’s official. If you’re looking for a swanky hotel or top notch restaurant to visit in 2002, there’s no place better to find one than New York. So says Conde Nast Traveler magazine, which awarded the Big Apple its annual ‘‘2002 Hot City’’ award on Wednesday, bumping Sydney, Australia, out of the top spot it occupied for the past two years.

Conde Nast said it reviewed 350 hotels and more than 500 restaurants for its annual survey. This year, New York had more hotels and restaurants on the magazine’s finalist list than any other city, the magazine said in a statement. ‘‘We are extremely proud that even in a year as tough as this one has been, the City has maintained its position as the world’s most important travel destination and has more of the best than any other city featured,’’ Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on Wednesday.
