Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s security has been strengthened further following the Union Home Ministry’s report of a threat to her life from a LTTE suicide bomber. Thirty more police personnel, including 10 sub-inspectors in plain clothes, have been deployed. Security has also been tightened at Fort St George, which houses the Secretariat and the Assembly.

So far, 40 police personnel and commandos had been deployed to guard Jayalalithaa, whose security is rated in the ‘Z’ category.

The additional personnel will carry out surveillance on the stretch of Kamarajar Salai from War Memorial to the Reserve Bank, which is the last stretch in the CM’s route from her Poes Garden residence to the Secretariat. The plainclothes cops will keep a vigil on movement of all vehicles passing through the route.
