MUMBAI, April 30: Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) officials will hear the plea of thousands of villagers of the Alibag region on Saturday, who are protesting against the state government’s proposed Rewas-Mandwa airport. The hearing will be held at the Alibagh collectorate and is scheduled to start at 10 am, according to a release issued by the 14-villages Shetkari and Machimar Bachav Andolan Samiti. A spokesperson of the Samiti today said the MMRDA was initially planning to call the farmers and fisherfolk to its Bandra office in north west Mumbai for the hearing.

After talks with the authorities by the president of the Samiti Datta Patil, it decided to hear the concerned parties at the Alibag collectorate.

According to the release, the news of the hearing has shocked the local community, and they will stage a peaceful black-flag demonstration on Saturday.
