Minor girl married off for Rs 70,000 in Punjab

In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl has been allegedly married off to a 35-year-old man in Moga.

In a shocking incident, a minor girl has been allegedly married off to a 35-year-old man in Moga by her relatives who took Rs 70,000 for it.

Police on Thursday said they have filed a case against eight persons from Faridkot and Moga districts in this connection.

A 13-year-old girl, who was staying at her uncle’s house, was married off to one Sardool Singh here, they said.

Police continued raids throughout the night to apprehend the accused, but in vain. The maternal uncle of the girl allegedly in connivance with the accused got her married after taking a sum of Rs 70,000 from the groom.

Father of the girl, Gurcharan Singh, a farmer of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh came to know about the incident a few days ago.
