
Violence marred the Trinamool Congress’ 24-hour Bangla bandh today. Over 1,900 party activists, including four MLAs, were arrested for trying to enforce the bandh called to protest against the Eastern Railway bifurcation.
Trinamool men tried to set a train coach on fire near Sheoraphuly station. Protesters also tried to set ablaze the luggage van of a Howrah-bound passenger train at Uttarpara in Hooghly district, police said.
Trinamool and CPM men clashed at two places at Kakdwip in South 24-Parganas.
