Allow Army to chase away Chinese: SP

Mulayam claimed he had discussed the issue with Antony but he did not give it much importance

Slamming the Centre for its “failure” to check the Chinese incursion in Ladakh,Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav Friday demanded that the military be given a free hand to drive them out.

“The government does not have the courage to remove the Chinese who have entered our territories. Now our minister will be going there with folded hands, pleading with them to leave our area. I know China will not leave our area on his pleading. We have a brave army and when army chief says that they can chase away the Chinese, let us give them a free hand,” Mulayam,a former defence minister, said while addressing SP workers. “The Chinese army, without using force and weapons, easily captures a strategic location. It is a big national crisis.”

China,Mulayam declared, can’t be trusted. “When it is weak,it lies low. When it becomes strong,it becomes aggressive. There is no point talking to China. It is better to allow the army to deal with it,” he said.

Mulayam claimed he had discussed the issue with Defence Minister A K Antony but he did not give it much importance. “I had categorically told him beforehand about Chinese aggression and cautioned him that he may have to resign due to this. But he claimed that he will manage it,” he said.

The SP leader also slammed the Centre for failing to check China’s growing influence in India’s neighbourhood. “They had sent army to help Sri Lanka and now even that country is with China. Nepal is also going with China,” he said.

China plays down border row with India

Beijing: China Friday sought to play down the border row with India over its troops setting up their tents in Depsang Valley in Ladakh, saying the two sides had the capacity and wisdom to resolve the issue through friendly consultations. “India and China are in close communication to resolve the differences over this issue,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a media briefing here.
