MUMBAI, August 25: Worli police nabbed a gang involved in the kidnapping of a garment trader’s brother from Worli on Saturday.

Four unidentified persons kidnapped Mavaji Patel from Dr E Moses Road, Worli on Friday night and demanded a sum of Rs 20 lakh from his brother Hirji Manji Patel, who deals in clothes. Hirji filed a complaint with Worli police station, stating that the kidnappers have demanding that the ransom money be delivered at Mahalaxmi railway bridge failing which his brother would be killed.

A constable from Kalachowki police station noticed five persons near Jai Hind cinema theatre making phone calls. Seeing that one of them looking frightened, the constable asked the group to come to police station.

Even while the policeman was talking to the scared man who turned out to be Mavaji, the four managed to escape. However, Mavani told the police the kidnap details and also revealed the address of the his kidnappers.

On Saturday night, the Worli police conducted a raid and nabbed all the four miscreants. Police said preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused did not belong to any gang but wanted to extort money.
