Five tribal children, studying at a state primary residential school, were beaten with a heated ladle by the headmistress’ son who was giving them lessons after school.

The students at the Borrigumma residential school were all below 10. The district administration had asked teachers to help students with lessons after school hours, with the headmistress supervising the classes.

Here, the headmistress, however, left behind her son. When the students couldn’t answer some questions, the son heated a ladle and beat them with it. One of them, Laki Nayak, had to be hospitalised for burn injuries.

The headmistress’ son was arrested after the parents of the students lodged an FIR, Jeypore SDPO D. Jena said.
