
MUMBAI, APRIL 10: Additional Sessions Judge SA Basu recently sentenced Rajesh Kawaiya Baroi to 10 years rigorous imprisonment for allegedly raping his two minor daughters aged 10 and eight. According to Special Public Prosecutor Kunda Pal, Baroi was residing at Jai Maharashtra Nagar, Antop Hill with his two daughters and a son, all minors. Baroi’s wife died in 1995 on account of illness.
Between January 23 and February 4, 1996, while telling ghost stories to his daughters during the night, he often sexually abused both of them and threatened them not to disclose this to anybody. The victims later complained to their grandmother about this behaviour of their father. Their grandmother then took the two girls to the police station where they lodged a complaint against their father who was arrested. A case was registered under sections 376 and 506(II) of the Indian Penal Code. The girls were later admitted to hospital for treatment.
When the matter came up for trial at the sessions court, both the girlsidentified the accused in the witness box and testified in the court against their father. Several witnesses including Dr Shivaji Dhond, attached to the Nagpada Police hospital were examined by the prosecution. The doctor informed the court that both the girls were sexually abused and submitted the medical certificates.
Judge Basu in her order, ruled for Baroi 10 years’ RI each for sexually abusing his two daughters. Both the sentences will run concurrently.
