JOHANNESBURG, JAN 27: Australia unexpectedly went down to England by six wickets at Newlands in Cape Town today, keeping alive their hopes of making the under-19 cricket World Cup final.The Australians will now head home a few days early while the Englishmen await the outcome of the India-Pakistan clash to see if they will be playing in Sunday’s final — an Indian victory could see them through, based on a superior run rate. Australia, who had been fancied for the final, were bowled out for 147.

With all-rounder Paul Franks leading the charge with 51 off 67 balls, England were never under threat as the runs flowed.South Africa beat New Zealand today with five wickets at Newlands, giving the host country a firm foot for the final just a week away. Goolam Bodi’s left-arm wrist spin earned him 4-26 in 6.2 overs, pushing the Kiwis into a slide that saw them lose five wickets for only 16 runs in four overs. They were all out for 196 in 46 overs.Morne van Wyk shored up a shaky South African middle-order to scorean undefeated 51.
