Admission for four-year DU courses to be based on cut-off percentages

'The existing system of cut-off percentages is expected to be retained for the July admissions'

The admission for the new four-year undergraduate programme of Delhi University are expected to be based on cut-off percentage, which are established on the Class XII marks of the students, and the choice of major discipline of an applicant.

While the final admission criteria is yet to be decided, university officials said the existing system of cut-off percentages is expected to be retained for the July admissions.

The decision was among those discussed at a meeting of the committee constituted by Vice-Chancellor for framing of guidelines for admission, examination and time-table to be followed in the next academic session.

The committee also recommended increasing the number of seats in each discipline.

Virender Bhardwaj,a member of the committee and teacher at Shivaji College, said: “The Delhi University is known for its Honours courses and this is going to be enhanced under the four-year programme…. In the four-year format, each student will get the opportunity to complete an Honours — baccalaureate with honours in the major discipline or a BTech degree — if he/she studies for four years.”

The university had earlier decided to do away with the Programme courses under the four-year format.

Talking about the increase in the number of seats in the major discipline,Bhardwaj said,“The seats of Programme courses in each college will be distributed among major disciplines, which the college will offer.”
