The government today turned the tables on the Opposition and charged it with ‘‘distorting facts’’ and ‘‘politicising’’ the murder of engineer Satyendra Dubey who was working on the Golden Quadrilateral Highway project.

Responding to Congress MP Shyama Singh’s question, Road Transport and Highways Minister B.C. Khanduri said, ‘‘the project is still the dream of the PM. But due to political reasons, it is turning into a nightmare.’’

Raising the issue, Shyama Singh had asked, ‘‘Why was the letter written by Dubey, seeking that his identity be kept a secret, treated in such a casual manner by the PMO and passed on to the very officials he was complaining against?’’

Denying the charges, Khanduri said, ‘‘A letter was received by the PMO on November 11 which was undated and unsigned.’’ The Opposition MPs refuted the information given by the minister. Khanduri explained, ‘‘It was addressed to the PMO and was unsigned, and said Dubey’s particulars were attached to the letter. It was sent to me and as it contained procedural matter of the NHAI, I sent it to the NHAI vigilance officer. The PMO and NHAI followed the right procedure.’’

Congress MP Adhir Chaudhury wanted to know if the Government would order ‘‘a CBI probe into NHAI appointments.’’

Khanduri said, ‘‘A committee has been set up for the purpose of appointments. A CBI probe is ordered in special cases, like in Dubey’s murder.’’
