Police here have entered a daily diary report (DDR) against former chief minister and Haryana PCC chief Bhajan Lal for allegedly threatening to kill a village sarpanch.
Nirmal Singh, sarpanch of Kunal village in the Fatehabad Assembly segment, had complained to the chief electoral officer that Lal had threatened to kill him for supporting INLD candidate Swatantra Choudhary in the by-election.
Fatehabad Deputy Commissioner R.B. Langyan said an inquiry had been ordered into the complaint.
Lal described the complaint as motivated. ‘‘It shows the frustration in the INLD camp. Senior police officers are dancing to the tune of Abhay Chautala, legislator-son of the Chief Minister. I have urged the CEC to replace police with para-military forces for free and fair poll,’’ he added.
Meanwhile, sources said Congress workers had complained to Lal that sarpanch Singh had stopped them from coming to the Congress meeting. On this, Lal said without naming anyone that those indulging in such high-handedness would not be spared when he comes to power.
