Sixty-two-year-old Deepak Bhardwajs multi-crore property business reportedly earned him many enemies, forcing him to station several security personnel in his 40-acre property at Nitesh Kunj Green Villa on the NH-8.
He reportedly had told his wife and son that he knew of people who wanted him dead this had led police to probe business rivalry as a motive for his murder.
Sources said on March 8,Bhardwaj told a close aide that he had employed more personal security guards following threats from his business rivals.
According to sources,Bhardwaj was also facing family problems. An argument in the family resulted in his wife Ramesh and son Nitesh moving to live separately in an apartment in Sector-22,Dwarka.
Bhardwaj reportedly met them regularly but hardly ever spoke to his elder son Hitesh, who lives with his family in Vasant Vihar, sources said. Sources said the trouble with Hitesh began after Bhardwaj named the property on NH- 8 Nitesh Kunj after his younger son.
Hitesh handles the real estate business,Nitesh looks after the Shiksha Bharati School in Dwarka.
Sources said two days ago,Bhardwaj had a dispute with one of his sons over the Nitesh Kunj property, following which a complaint was made at the Vasant Kunj-South police station. Senior police officers did not confirm or deny this.
Harneet Singh,Bhardwajs nephew, said: Bhardwajs sons are married. The family belongs to Sonepat in Haryana, but had moved to Delhi almost 25 years ago. I was informed by a relative at 10 am that uncle has been shot at. I rushed to the hospital. We do not suspect anyone because he had no enmity with any person.
Police said Bhardwaj mainly took over disputed properties and sold them off. This, police said, earned Bhardwaj many enemies.
Sources said a case was registered against Bhardwaj in 1998 over a six-acre property, which Bhardwaj had reportedly usurped.
Bhardwajs wife Ramesh alleged his guards were responsible for his death.
