Calcutta High Court stayed a New India Assurance Company notification which cancelled all policies under Janata Group Accident policy from August 1. The policy for a time period of 15 years and sum assured of Rs 10 lakhs with a one-time premium of around Rs 3,000 to 4,000, was initiated in December, 1998.
New India Assurance issued a notice cancelling all policies under JPA on August 1 this year. Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose stayed the notification from taking effect till six weeks after the puja vacation on a petition filed by policy holders.
