VADODARA, July 13: Police arrested one Jayesh Bharatbhai Mistry, who made an unsuccessful bid to cheat Bank of Baroda’s Padmavati Shopping Complex branch of Rs 5,000 on Monday.

According to the police, the cheat filled up a withdrawal form and forged the signature of Mukund Ramakant Sant, who holds a savings bank account no. 11569 in the bank. He submitted the form to the counter clerk, who issued him token number three.

However, supervisor K.M. Bakhshi found that signatures on the form did not match the one given to the bank at the timing of opening of the account. The account holder had also been issued a cheque book and always operated his account through bank cheques only. Bakhshi alerted the branch manager. But no sooner than the manager asked the guard to nab the cheat than he slipped away.

However, he resurfaced at BOB’s branch in Raopura with the same token after an hour and tried to withdraw Rs 1,500 of another account holder. Since the token of the two branches are different and easily identifiable, he was caught by the bank staff.

As the news of attempt to cheat the bank’s branch in Padmavati complex had already been flashed to all the branches, the Raopura branch manager informed his counterpart there. The cheat was then handed over to police.
