While no untoward incident was reported from any part of the district following the “accidental” death of 23-year-old Kuldip Singh, residents blocked a road in Kharak village and a complete bandh was observed in Satnali in Mahindergar district, a Rajput-dominated area.

Prime accused constable Karambir was remanded in two days’ police custody by Civil Judge Shashi Chauhan after he was produced in the court today.

Taking no chances, the police have made elaborate security arrangements in the district. SP Sanjay Kumar said police force from four districts under Hisar Range has been deployed.

Accusing the police of delaying the arrest of the other seven accused, the deceased’s uncle, Vijender, alleged that the police were trying to hush up the matter. “We will take legal action if the guilty are not arrested immediately,” he said. A delegation of Sarva Jatiya Sangharsh Samiti met the SP, demanding immediate arrest of the guilty.

INLD general secretary Ajay Singh Chautala visited the house of the deceased and expressed his sympathy with the family. Condemning the police action, he said the Congress government had no control of law and order in the state and demanded President’s rule in the state. Member of BJP national working committee Om Prakash Dhankar also criticised the Haryana government. HJC chief Kuldip Bishnoi also condemned the police action.
