Burdened by responsibility, Sporting Clube de Goa’s captain Dudu Omagbemi says he has been having sleepless nights. Today at the Cooperage, after a tight vigil for 90 minutes, he probably caught a wink and that proved costly. An injury-time equaliser by Air India’s Narendra Meetei negated Dudu’s strike as the two teams shared points after a 1-1 draw in their National Football League game.

Man of the match Dudu couldn’t hide his despair. “I want to score more for my team and want to see us win. But sadly we keep ending up with a loss or draw,” he said.

Such is Dudu’s focus on the job at hand, that he doesn’t even believe in celebrating after scoring. The 23-year-old Nigerian merely exchanged a few glances with his mates and walked across the centre line after he had scored in the 68th minute.

But as always, he was a marked man today. The two Air-India defenders marking the star striker today were Binoy Kuruvilla and Martins. They did a fine job of restricting Dudu’s efforts in the first half, but things were different in the second.

The hero of the day, though, was Meetei, who headed the all-important equaliser. The 25-year-old Manipuri lad, who has been with Air-India for the last seven years, says that this one is special.

Sporting coach Clifford Chukwuma later said, “Our boys paid the price for that lapse in concentration. It’s disappointing”.

Meanwhile, Riding on Anthony Pereira and Ranty Martins’ brace, Dempo thrashed Mohammedan Sporting 5-0 to garner their first full points in Goa, reports PTI.

Dempo scored through Anthony Pereira (1st, 41st), Ranty Martins (11th, 67th) and substitute Peter Carvalho. Dempo were offensive from the start and continued their domination throughout the match.
