The CBI has confirmed that “separate CDs” were prepared of murdered Meerut University lecturer Kavita Chaudhary engaging in sexual acts with a former Uttar Pradesh minister, a former vice-chancellor of Meerut University as well as “some other UP politicians”. This was documented in a chargesheet submitted by the CBI in a Ghaziabad court today.

Charging five people with the kidnap and murder of Chaudhary, the CBI said the CD was used by the accused to extort Rs 35 lakh from former UP Irrigation Minister and Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Dr Mirajuddin. Another CD was prepared of Chaudhary with R P Singh, the former vice chancellor of Chaudhary Charan Singh University in Meerut.

Though Chaudhary had conspired with the five accused, she was murdered by her associates following a dispute over distribution of money. Despite demanding the lion’s share, Chaudhary was paid only Rs 40,000.

When she failed to get what she wanted, Chaudhary roped in one Yashveer Fauji, a criminal, to threaten accused Ravinder Pradhan and his associates, prompting the five to kill her. Fauji was subsequently killed in an encounter.

Meanwhile, the CBI was yet to prove conclusively that the body identified as that of Chaudhary was indeed hers. DNA reports of two unidentified bodies later fished out of the Sonata river was still awaited. “Investigation into the larger conspiracy continues and a supplementary chargesheet could be presented later in court,” the chargesheet noted.

The five persons chargesheeted for murder, kidnap, extortion, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence were Pradhan, his nephew Ravinder, Sultan Singh, Yogesh and Ashok Kumar. The chargesheet said the five kidnapped Chaudhary from Bulandshahr on October 23, sedated her with a laced drink and then strangled her to death. The body was thrown into the Sonata river at Bulandshahr on October 24.
