2 ‘Maoists’ held, had CM on hit-list

Two suspected Maoists were arrested from a village in Murshidabad district on Saturday night.

Two suspected Maoists were arrested from a village in Murshidabad district on Saturday night. Two sten guns, ammunition and incriminating literature and a hit-list — prepared in the form of a handbill with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s name on top ¿ were also recovered from them, said Basab Talukder, SP Murhsidabad.

The two, identified as Tajuddin alias Chandan and Achintya Das, were caught in a raid on a house in Kodalkati village. The house belonged to Harman Sheikh, a leader of the state’s ruling Left Front constituent Revolutionary Socialist Party.

While Tajuddin is a resident of Dwarikanathpur under Nawda police station, Achintya is a resident of Tehatta in Nadia district. The two were remanded in police custody for 10 days by the ACJM court in Berhampur.

Interestingly, they were arrested from the house of Harman Sheikh, a leader of the state’s ruling Left Front constituent Revolutionary Socialist Party. The police raided Sheikh’s house in Kodalkati village under Nawda police station. “They were carrying 25 handbills which had names of several CPM leaders as their targets. Bhattacharjee’s name figured on top of the hit-list,” a police officer said. Police sources added that apart from trying to recruit cadres, they were also involved in snatching service weapons from policemen and cases of arson in Murshidabad.
