QUEST: A schools’ initiative from The Indian express. Quest asked students: Are perseverance and determination more important than talent to be successful?
Many people think that all you need to succeed at anything is talent. Talent is helpful but perseverance ensured one achieves success.
A child can have a great talent for ballet dancing but without good teachers to guide that raw talent and the child’s perseverance, she will never be famous ballerina. It is the same with a writer, a child can show an exceptional talent for storytelling, but if he ignores his teacher’s comments and doesn’t work on his stories, he will never be a great novelist.

Talent is an inborn quality which makes us capable of achieving success whereas determination and perseverance enable us to achieve something. It’s the will to achieve success. A person with talent may have the capability to achieve success but to achieve it you have to work towards it. This requires will, which is provided by determination and perseverance and you have to work tirelessly.
A person without talent but having determination can achieve success. They help in shaping a human’s future. People having talent, determination and perseverance might be successful. It can be achieved if the person sticks to his goal. Former Indian hockey coach Michael Nobbs said, “You’ve to work hard to achieve success, talent won’t make you successful in anything.”

The only place in the world where success comes before work is the dictionary. Talking about success in outer world, it is a journey and not a destination and this journey is on the wheels of perseverance, determination, luck and talent.
I believe that all of the above are equally important for an individual to be successful. One has to perform as others look up to him and determination is the key to performance. Turning the pages of history, we have seen that people who have been determined towards their work have been successful, like Thomas Alva Edison.
But in this journey of success, the wheel of talent cannot be neglected and this wheel is not factory-made. And with this, I believe that any wheel of this vehicle is equally important.

Many people think that to succeed, you just need talent. Yes, talent is helpful, but talent alone without perseverance and determination, cannot help you achieve success. Perseverance and determination help us use our talent. I think that perseverance and determination help one to reach their aim. Talent is not greater than determination and perseverance. Perseverance and determination will get you to the next level. Talent will show you different ways but perseverance and determination will let you walk your way successfully. Perseverance and determination will not let you to give up in life.

Perseverance is the continuous effort in darkest of time, it’s a silver lining in a dark tunnel, it’s the key of success and is taking hard work to a new level. Determination is the focus, the concentration and the dedication to do the impossible. On the other, talent is an innate quality. It depends on individual’s own way of recognising it.
Success depends upon staying raw with all the power… The reason for failure in most cases is lack of perseverance. Having talent but unwilling to work hard takes you nowhere.
The most hidden secret of a successful person is amalgamation of hard work, perseverance, determination together with talent. Dreams come easy but turning them into reality requires perseverance.
Our former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam rightly said, “Dream is not what you see in sleep… It is the thing which can’t let you sleep.”

Everybody wants success in life. To achieve success, commitment, hard work and determination are needed. Dedication and confidence also play an important role in achieving success. Positive attitude and positive thinking lead to perseverance and determination.
Perseverance is an attitude of pursuing one idea, discipline, ideal, rules to achieve a goal. There are countless hurdles and failures that we come across before we achieve something worthwhile in life. The only undying quality imbibed in every successful person is perseverance. It is this quality that makes one see an impossible task as possible.
Determination is the desire and commitment to achieve success. Determination is what drives us to better our self. With the help of self-assurance and determination, any goal can be accomplished.

Perseverance and determination are more important than talent to achieve success
Many people think that all you need to succeed is talent. However, talent alone, without perseverance, is useless. This is as true with writing as it is with any other activity. A child can be a talented ballet dancer, but without good teachers and the child’s perseverance, she will never be a famous ballerina.
It is the same with a writer. A child can show an exceptional talent for storytelling, but if he ignores his teachers’ comments, and doesn’t work on his stories, he will never be a great novelist. Perseverance and determination are more important than talent to achieve success.

There are many elements to perseverance. Determination is merely one part of perseverance, deciding that you are going to keep writing regardless, is determination. Perseverance is working hard at your skill and not giving up. Great writers did not give up. Practice makes one perfect and writing often will help you to better your skill.
Test yourself and your skill. It helps to write in different genres and test which suits you. If you normally write fiction, try some non-fiction, and if you normally write poetry, try some prose. For any writer, flash fiction is good discipline, helping you to express your ideas and thoughts succinctly. Practise writing all sorts of things. Persevering with your writing keeping your eventual goal in mind will help you to succeed more than mere talent. Perseverance and hard work will help you to make the best use of your talent, but talent alone will never help you succeed.

The world is full of competition and to succeed, one needs talent, knowledge, and most of all, determination to achieve something. People just work on, keep on moving from one place to another in search of jobs, etc…
People lose hope if their job application is rejected by a company. “Try, try, till you succeed”. This would be an appropriate description for one to be successful in life. One having to start with a small position should be later working hard to be successful and boost up!
Determination is more valuable than talent. This can be explained just by the example of Bill Gates. He believed in ‘No pain, no gain’. This inspired him. He had determination and perseverance, which led him to success.
