Men, how often do you wear those boxer shorts without washing them? Days and weeks, is it? Well, if experts are to go by, it’s not a hygienic practice. One should wash their boxers every other day.
Gynaecologist Dr Shobha Gupta, medical, director, Mother’s Lap IVF Centre New Delhi and Vrindavan, agreed that wearing boxers for more than a day without washing is generally not recommended for hygiene and health reasons.

“Our bodies produce sweat and oils and shed dead skin cells throughout the day, which can accumulate in our clothing. This creates a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi in unwashed boxers, potentially leading to unpleasant odours, rashes, and even infections,” said Dr Gupta.
Changing boxers daily helps maintain cleanliness, reduces irritation, and lowers the risk of conditions like jock itch or bacterial infections, Dr Gupta stressed.
Additionally, Dr Gupta noted that a fresh pair of boxers contributes to a feeling of cleanliness and confidence, important for comfort, especially in warm or active environments where perspiration increases.

“Regularly washing and changing boxers also extends their lifespan, as sweat and bacteria can break down fabric over time,” said Dr Gupta.
Therefore, changing boxers daily is a simple but effective way to prioritise personal hygiene and well-being.
Dr Gupta emphasised that habits like regularly changing clothes, washing them in good-quality detergents, and using soap and disinfectants while taking baths are essential practices that must be followed every day. “There is no reason as to why one must forgo personal hygiene. It is extremely important for their health as well as for the people around them, too,” shared Dr Gupta.
