No matter how hard your day has been outside, the moment you get back home, you get this sigh of relief, and you are like ‘Home Sweet Home’,” Rakul Preet Singh described the humble abode she built along with her husband Jackky Bhagnani. The couple tied the knot earlier this year in February.
Talking to Asian Paints, Rakul shared that he had moved around a lot during her children since her father was in the Indian Army, before settling down and having her own space in Hyderabad. The Mumbai apartment is the first space she has built with Bhagnani.
“Your bedroom is your most sacred space. It’s a lot of wood and lighter reflections. There’s a lot of white wood as well, and the entire space gives a feeling of openness, and all the colours are reflective of that personality,” she told the platform.
While decorating this house, Rakul said that she understood the meaning of calmness, the meaning of what decor can do to your emotions and feeling. “The sense of belonging that you can achieve through how your space looks and now it’s of utmost importance that everything at home is a reflection of who you are.”
Wood, a recurring material in the home, lends a natural intimacy to the space, complemented by elegant lighting fixtures and carefully curated furniture.
The living room boasts an interplay of textures and colours, with plush green and yellow seating set against the rich wood-clad flooring and walls. The multifunctional bar and lounge area, a personal favourite of Rakul’s, features a striking contrast between silver accents, earthy tones and wooden finishes, creating a cosy yet chic vibe. “This is the space where we dance, sing, eat and create memories,” she recounted.
Bhagnani added, “She has brought a lot of warmth into the house.” While Rakul described their home as a “happy, bright” space, Jackky quipped that it is, “Elegant yet simple.”
In a parting note, Rakul suggested two tips that you could use for your space. Using lots of planters, and adding that pop of greenery, especially if you have a small terrace or balcony, and adding a pop of colour to break monotony- say with a piece of art or bright painting which lifts up the entire room.
