Sonakshi Sinha’s beauty routine is incomplete without the generous use of facial oils, owing to her very dry skin. “Try this out: Thrice a week with any face oil, even pure coconut oil will do. Also, remember I have super dry skin so this works for me,” the Dabangg actor was heard sharing in a skincare routine video shared on YouTube.
Dr Rinky Kapoor, Consultant Dermatologist, Cosmetic Dermatologist & Dermato-Surgeon, The Esthetic Clinics explained that facial oil massage is a therapeutic experience when done right and provides various health benefits, and improves blood circulation throughout your face.
“To enhance this experience you can perform simple facial exercises or movements for better results. This can include stroking upward direction on the cheeks to lift the skin and enhance facial features. Circular motions on the forehead can provide you with much-needed relief while relaxing your muscles. To get rid of puffiness around your eyes, one can gently tap around the eyes.
Dr Priyanka Kuri, Consultant – Dermatology, Aster Whitefield Hospital, Bengaluru listed out some common facial exercises and techniques, which work best paired with facial oils:
Dr Kapoor mentioned that facial oils help improve skin elasticity, radiant youth-like glow, deep hydration, and nourishment. “The appearance of fine lines around your face start to disappear when massaged rightly. When the oil penetrates deep into your skin, it boosts collagen production while making your skin soft.”
However, one needs to be cautious and follow safety measures. “Ensure that the type of oil you are using suits your skin type or condition. Avoid using warm or hot oil as the facial skin is extremely sensitive and it can cause burns,” she said. Dr Kapoor also warned to maintain hygiene by washing your hands thoroughly to prevent the risk of infection or clogged pores.
