She has been designing since four years only, but Nishka Lulla has already warmed up to being a fashion talent to reckon with for her easy-breezy women’s wear pieces. Of course it helps that she has an inherited legacy– her mum Neeta Lulla has been a pioneering costumier for films and fashion designer, and a National Award winner.
The family is preparing for Nishka’s wedding in early June in Thailand. In true Bollywood-style, Nishka, 29, met her fiance Dhruv Mehra at a friend’s wedding last year. Cupid struck quickly and within a few months he had popped the question.
The celebrations begins with a high-wattage brunch party at the posh Japanese eatery Hakkasan on May 31. On the guest list are everybody the mother-daughter duo has worked with in the movie and fashion fraternity — right from Sridevi and Juhi Chawla to Deepika Padukone, Parineeti Chopra, Kalki Koechlin and Hema Malini. “My mum has obviously made all my clothes for every party,” beams Nishka. “At Hakkasan, I’ll be wearing a lavender maxi gown with Tinkerbell pixies embroidered all over. And Dolce & Gabbana sandals with green and lavender crystals on them.”
A varmala-exchange will follow at the Iskon temple, Juhu, because Nishka says she is a big follower of the Hare Krishna ideology. Then, on June 11 and 12, the wedding festivities move to the Anantara Resort in Bangkok. The guests here are just family and “close friends” like Genelia and Ritiesh Deshmukh, Sushmita Sen and Tamanna.
The excited Nishka says she is especially looking forward to the wedding decor, her mother’s first-time efforts in designing spaces. “The mehendi is an outdoors party by the riverside,” she beams. Nishka will wear a merry-go-round inspired bohemian blouse and skirt with mirrors and horses on it.
