In a world where privilege often shields public figures from personal struggles, Anant Ambani’s battle with obesity stands as a testament to the universal nature of health challenges. The youngest son of India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, has fought weight issues since childhood. His journey from a young boy grappling with health concerns to a confident groom has not only inspired many but also revealed the deep emotional bonds within one of Asia’s most prominent families.
In a recent heartfelt interview with Bloomberg Television, Nita Ambani, matriarch of the Ambani family, shared a touching moment from her son’s wedding journey. “My son Anant has been fighting obesity from a very young age because of his asthma and when he went up on a stage as a confident groom, he told me, ‘Mom, it’s not what I am physically, it’s what my heart is.’ And I saw him holding his life partner’s hand. I think that was the most touching feeling, as a mother.”
This moment sparked reflections on her enduring love story with Mukesh Ambani, which began when she was a school teacher. Their marriage in 1985 has stood the test of time, built on a foundation of mutual support and friendship. “I often tell my children that the biggest decision you take in your life is to choose your life partner. And every day of my life I feel so blessed because I am married to my best friend. Mukesh has been my true supporter. The wind beneath my wings. He’s my biggest inspiration. So I think to have married someone who supports you unconditionally the way Mukesh supports me truly is a blessing.”

The festivities began with a spectacular three-day celebration in Jamnagar in March, followed by an exclusive European cruise in June, and culminated in a grand three-day wedding celebration in Mumbai in July.
When questioned about the lavish scale of the celebrations, Nita Ambani responded, “You know every parent wants to do their best for their children’s wedding. And that’s what we did in all this. I think it was a made in India brand that came out,” she explained, emphasising the cultural significance of the celebrations. “I am happy that I was able to kind of bring to the centre-stage our Indian traditions, Indian heritage, and Indian culture.”
The star-studded events drew international attention, featuring performances by global icons including Rihanna. The July wedding festivities further elevated the event’s global appeal with the presence of American reality TV stars Kim and Khloe Kardashian, alongside luminaries from the worlds of sports and business.
Through it all, what shone through was not just the grandeur of the celebrations, but the strong family bonds and personal growth that marked this milestone in the Ambani family’s journey.
