Exfoliation
Arora emphasises on exfoliation. “It is important to have a clean canvas before starting your makeup application. You should scrub once a week at least to get rid of dead cells and gunk on your skin,” she says.
“With most clients, we notice that if the skin is not prepped well, the base products don’t sit well on top. Often, we find the concealer caking up around the eyes and nose, and the foundation peeling off near the ears.” To avoid this looking especially bad in flash photography, exfoliation and properly hydrating the skin becomes extremely important.
Cleansing-Toning-Moisturising
Surbhi recommended starting by preparing the skin well to avoid product pilling.
“Follow a cleansing, toning, moisturising routine along with applying a broad spectrum sunscreen. You can also add toners and essences for extra hydration. If you want to treat hyperpigmentation, use a niacinamide serum. For hydration and brightening, hyaluronic acid and vitamin C work best,” Arora said.
Priming
As a general rule of thumb, Surbhi warned against piling on excess product on your face. “People often end up moisturising too much. Use minimal quantity of products, but apply wherever is needed the most.”
According to her, this works especially in the case of priming. She says, “Silicone-based primers should be applied only in areas absolutely needed, followed by concealer and foundation for a smooth base.”
