When it comes to elevating your festive wardrobe, heavy jhumkas are a timeless choice. These exquisite earrings can instantly infuse a touch of festivity and charm into your ethnic attire. Yet, it’s no secret that heavy jhumkas, while beautiful, can sometimes lead to earlobe pain and stretching.
The good news is you don’t have to bid adieu to these accessories. Recently, Dr Manasi Shirolikar, a dermatologist, shared valuable guidance on how to flaunt your festive jhumkas with grace and ease, ensuring a pain-free and stylish celebration.
Dr. Shirolikar cautions against the use of numbing creams, a method some celebrities and influencers promote to wear heavy earrings painlessly.
She emphasises the importance of pain as a crucial signal from our body. Pain alerts us to issues like earring tightness or improper positioning, which could potentially cause tissue damage, bleeding, or tearing. Suppressing this pain may give a false sense of security, leading to unnoticed damage and more severe complications over time. Moreover, numbing creams can mask allergic reactions to earring metals.
However, for those who can’t resist the allure of heavy jhumkas, Dr Shirolikar offers some practical tips:
1) Ear Chain: Ear chains are metal accessories that attach to your hair or clothing and then to your earrings. They help distribute the weight of the earrings, adding an element of elegance to your look. You can find ear chains online and in select craft stores.
2) Lobe Patches: Lobe patches are adhesive patches applied to the back of the ear to provide support and alleviate the weight of heavy earrings. They protect the earlobes from sagging or tearing due to excessive strain. These patches are readily available online and in some major retail stores.
3) Taking Breaks: Taking intermittent breaks from wearing heavy earrings, say, every few hours, is an essential practice. These breaks allow your ears to recover from the pressure, minimising the risk of inflammation and infection.
