Happy Ugadi, Gudi Padwa 2023 Wishes Images, Messages, Photos, and Status: Gudi Padwa is an auspicious festival celebrated by people in the state of Maharashtra and some other parts of the country. It marks the beginning of the New Year according to the Hindu calendar, usually falling in March or April. The festival is also known by other names like Ugadi, Yugadi, and Cheti Chand in different regions.
This year, Gudi Padwa will be celebrated on March 22, which is a Wednesday.
The word ‘Gudi’ means flag or emblem, and ‘Padwa’ means the first day of the month of Chaitra. On this day, people hoist a Gudi made of a bamboo stick, cloth, and a copper or silver pot placed at the top. The Gudi is decorated with neem leaves, flowers, and mango leaves, symbolising growth, prosperity, and happiness. It is believed that the Gudi wards off evil and brings good luck to the family.
The festival holds great significance for the Marathi community, who consider it a symbol of hope and renewal. According to mythology, Lord Brahma created the universe on this day, and Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana, marking the victory of good over evil. People also believe that the Gudi was hoisted by the Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj after he conquered Pune, and since then, it has become a tradition to hoist the Gudi on this day.
To mark this special occasion, don’t forget to share these wishes with your loved ones.
Wishing you and your loved ones a very Happy Gudi Padwa! May this new year bring happiness, prosperity, and success in all your endeavours.
