Dussehra 2023 Puja Vidhi Muhurat: After the nine-day festival of Navratri, Dussehra or Vijayadashami is celebrated. Dussehra will be celebrated in India on October 24th (Tuesday) in 2023. This day also marks the start of Diwali preparations in 2023, which will take place after 20 days following Dussehra celebrations in the country.
Dussehra, one of the most important Hindu celebrations, commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over Ravana, the demonic monarch who stole Rama’s wife, Sita. Dussehra is a Sanskrit word that translates to ‘ten (dasha) defeat (hara)’ in English since King Ravana was known to have ten heads. This day falls on the 10th day of the month of Ashvina, which corresponds to September-October in the Gregorian calendar.

Some of the rituals performed on Vijayadashami include Shami Puja, Aparajita Puja, and Seema Avalanghan. These rites should be performed during Aparahna time, according to the Hindu division of the day, Drik Panchang noted.
Although Dussehra is not part of Navratri or Durga Puja, it is associated with them since Goddess Durga statues are immersed in holy water on this day. In contrast, as part of the Dussehra rituals, effigies of Ravana, Meghnad, and Kunbhakaran are also set ablaze.
Sindoor khela, in which married Hindu women smear each other with vermilion while bidding farewell to the goddess, is one of the most famous Dashami rites, particularly in West Bengal. Here are the times for the puja.
According to Drik Panchang, this year Dashami tithi begins at 05.44 PM on October 23, Monday and ends at 03.14 PM on October 24, Tuesday. The Vijay Muhurata begins at 01.58 PM on October 23 and ends at 02.43 PM on the same day. The duration of the Vijay Muhurata is 45 minutes. The Apaharana pooja time on Tuesday lies between 01.13 PM and 03.28 PM. The duration is 2 hours 15 minutes.
