From coconut oil to aloe vera, Ayurveda expert suggests home remedies to heal facial redness

From allergic reactions to sunburn, facial redness, which may often reach the neck, can be caused by several factors. “Face becomes red when the blood vessels dilate, causing more blood to rush to the skin. It can be a result of long exposure to sunlight, causing sunburn, an allergic reaction to a medication, or overconsumption of alcohol,” noted Dr Dimpla Jangda in her Instagram post.

While redness on the face is not always a reason for concern, it can be irritating and uncomfortable. It might also be accompanied by other symptoms. If it is persistent, it is better to know the cause, which may help treat the condition, and visit a doctor.

There are certain precautions that one can take to prevent redness on the face, including avoiding exposure to rapid changes in temperature and sunlight, staying hydrated, and refraining from consuming alcohol. Also, one can practice relaxation techniques, such as meditation, breathing exercises, etc. “But sometimes, redness may also be indicative of an underlying medical condition and needs to be checked by a doctor immediately,” said Dr Dimple in the post.

The expert came up with some easy and effective remedies to treat the redness on the face at home. From aloe vera to coconut oil, the expert listed the following ways that may help relieve the symptoms:

Aloe vera
It has anti-inflammatory and wound-healing properties. It helps reduce the red patches that appear on the face and helps them heal faster. Apply aloe vera gel on the red patches, leave it overnight and wash it off in the morning.

Cold compress
Cold compresses help soothe inflammation and rashes on your skin, thereby reducing facial redness. Soak a washcloth in ice-cold water and wring out the excess. Place on the affected areas for 10 mins.

Green tea soak
Green tea contains catechins that have anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties. These properties help reduce the appearance of red patches on your face. Boil 2-3 leaves and let them cool down. Soak a washcloth in it and apply it to the affected areas.

Coconut oil
It contains lauric acid which has antifungal properties. This help fight skin infection that causes facial redness. Take a tbsp of slightly warm coconut oil and apply it to the affected areas. leave it on for about an hour before washing it off.
