American academic, psychologist and popular author, Angela Lee Duckworth, recalled in her inspiring TED Talk video from April 2013 about how she quickly realised that IQ wasn’t the only aspect that separated successful students from those who struggled.

“One characteristic emerged as a significant predictor of success. It wasn’t good looks, physical health or IQ. It was grit. Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals. Grit is having stamina. Grit is sticking with your future, day in and day out, not just for the week, not just for the month but for years and working really hard to make that future, a reality,” she said.

Duckworth who made the students fill up questionnaires and analysed them for over a year, said that grit made all the difference. “The ability to learn is not fixed and it can change with your effort,” she opined.
