Kareena Kapoor Khan may defy age, but she has always embraced the changes that come with growing old with open arms. In a candid conversation with American actor and writer Gillian Anderson, Kareena spoke about the fine lines that adorn her face.
“I enjoy a few lines on my face here and there. It kind of looks sexy. Somehow, I feel like I am happier in my 40s than I was in my 20s. I want it to just take its natural course. I am still not old. I am still rocking,” Khan, 44, said on The Dirty Magazine podcast.
During the conversation, the Jaane Jaan said that women have always been expected to be “shy” and “coy,” but the perception is slightly changing.
Taking a leaf out of her admission, let’s understand more about this perspective.
Dr Jyoti Kapoor, founder-director and senior psychiatrist, Manasthali Wellness, concurred that many people feel happier in their 40s than in their 20s—and that feeling is no accident.
“The confidence, wisdom, and clarity that come with age can make all the difference. In your 20s, life is often a whirlwind of trying to find your path, juggle responsibilities, and navigate relationships. There’s a lot of pressure to achieve, compare yourself to others, and constantly prove yourself. However, by the time you reach your 40s, many people experience a sense of settling into themselves,” said Dr Kapoor.

The need for external validation diminishes, and the focus shifts to what truly brings joy—whether it’s relationships, career satisfaction, or personal growth.
“One of the significant shifts is feeling sexier as you grow older. It’s not necessarily about a youthful appearance, but about embracing your body and yourself in a way that comes with experience. Confidence in who you are—physically, emotionally, and mentally—becomes a powerful source of attraction,” shared Dr Kapoor.
The expert reiterated that the pressures that once consumed you begin to fade, making space for a stronger, more grounded version of yourself.
“As a result, the happiness and sexiness that come with this newfound confidence are unmatched, often leading to more fulfillment and a stronger sense of self-worth than ever before,” said Dr Kapoor.
