Hina Khan, who is battling breast cancer, recently attended OTTplay Awards where she walked the red carpet in a stunning black dress and sported her real hair. The actor, who has completed chemotherapy and is currently undergoing immunotherapy after surgery, while posing for shutterbugs, said, “Abhi itne hi baal aaye hai (Only so much hair has re-grown as of now).” (smiles).
She also took to Instagram to share a heartfelt note about the recognition for her work on her latest serial, Grihalaxmi. “In all these 16 years of my career, I have won plenty of awards, but I have never posted a winning speech or a stage interaction after an award. But this one was very special. Because while shooting for Grahlakshmi, I was going through a very hard time, and a lot happened after it.”
“How do you guys like my new look?” Hina added.
Notably, losing hair is one of the most visible and emotionally challenging side effects of cancer treatment, particularly chemotherapy.
Recall that in 2024, Khan shared an emotional video of getting her head shaved, saying, “You can win this only if you embrace yourself, accept it, and I choose to accept my battle scars because I believe if you embrace yourself, you are one step closer towards your healing and I really, really want to heal.”
She then apprised her followers that she would sport a custom wig made with her hair. “The moment I was diagnosed, I knew I’d lose my hair. I chose to cut it off on my own terms while it was still healthy, long, and vibrant. I decided to make a wig of my OWN hair that would bring me comfort during this challenging time. And I must say it was an empowering decision, and I’m so proud of it,” she captioned the post.

How long does it take for hair to grow back?
Hair regrowth after chemotherapy or immunotherapy in breast cancer cases may differ from person to person, said Dr Shareefa Chause, dermatologist, Dr Shareefa Skin Care Clinic, Mumbai.
“It will vary based on the treatment type, dosage, and other factors such as health status. According to the studies and evidence available, hair starts to grow back about three to four months after the completion of chemotherapy, though the texture and colour may initially be different. After certain months, there can be noticeable regrowth,” said Dr Chause.
When it comes to immunotherapy, the impact on hair varies in each individual body, said Dr Chause. Scalp care, gentle hair products, and a nutrient-rich diet can support the process. It will be imperative for patients to consult an expert if there are any doubts. One should not get bogged down and embrace himself or herself. It is essential to adhere to the instructions given by the expert,” expressed Dr Chause.
