Just two doner kebabs,the most popular post-pub snack in the UK,can give people their recommended saturated fat intake for a week,according to a new report.
The survey conducted by the Local Authority Coordinators of Regulatory Services (Lacors) reveals shocking levels of fat,salt,and calories in doner kebabs.
The study officers from 76 councils sampled the nutritional value of 494 kebabs and found that the worst kebab contained 346 per cent of a womans daily saturated fat intake,or half the weekly allowance.
It also contained 277 per cent of the daily-recommended salt intake for a woman and 1,990 calories.
An average kebab,without sauce,contained 148 per cent of an adults daily saturated fat allowance and 98 per cent of their recommended daily salt intake.
“The level of saturated fat and salt in some is a serious cause for concern,” the Telegraph quoted Geoffrey Theobald,of Lacors as saying.
The study also found that kebabs in the north-west of England were “fattest” and contained 1,101 calories,while those in Northern Ireland averaged 843 calories.
