Mira Kapoor, who is known for her fondness for Ayurveda, recently shared on social media that she is all set to undertake an annual detox. “Time for my annual detox. It is an ayurvedic cleanse based on panchakarma but tailored to my constitution and concerns. I have been doing it once a year for the last 6 years and I am so looking forward to a complete reset,” she said.
And now, she took to Instagram Stories to reveal what her day 4 of detox looked like. Revealing that she had ghee for breakfast, Mira said, “I was not as hungry as the first two days.”
The detox led her to feel “more energy and overall feeling of vitality,” she admitted. As for her sleep, Mira shared that her sleep pattern has drastically altered. “I wake up early without an alarm.”
Further, she has no sugar or caffeine cravings. “Small changes, over time become big changes. Ready to sleep goodnight,” Mira concluded.

According to Deepali Sharma, clinical nutritionist at the CK Birla Hospital (R), Delhi, consuming ghee in the morning during breakfast or on an empty stomach helps the cells in the body as it is a rich source of calcium, healthy fats, omega-3 fatty acids, and Vitamins A, D, E, and K. “Ghee is renowned for its holistic goodness and offers a gamut of advantages that set the tone for a vibrant day ahead. It is a natural lubricant and good for joint pains. It removes toxins and regulates cholesterol. Better blood circulation and antioxidant effect reduce the accumulation of free radicals in body cells. The omega 3 fatty acids help to treat problems in vision,” said Sharma.
Ghee also helps to fight dryness or fatigue in the eyes. “It also strengthens our immune system as it contains antioxidants and helps to absorb fat-soluble vitamins and minerals,” she added.
Agreeing, Dr Vivek Srivastava, Senior Vice President: Innovation -Business Strategy and Scientific Affairs, Zeon Lifesciences said that incorporating a spoonful of ghee into your breakfast not only nourishes your body but also kindles the flames of your inner Agni – the digestive fire that orchestrates wellness. “This sacred tradition sets the foundation for holistic well-being, as ghee’s unique properties penetrate deep into your body’s tissues, promoting balance and vitality,” he said.
In an earlier interaction with indianexpress.com, Dr Santosh Pandey, naturopath and acupuncturist, Rejua Energy Centre, Mumbai called annual detox a “good idea as it may help reset and rejuvenate the body”.
He also explained that panchakarma, as an integral part of Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine from India, is a set of five therapeutic treatments aimed at detoxifying and rejuvenating the body, mind, and spirit.
Dr Pandey shared the five main procedures of panchakarma which are as follows:
1) Vamana (Emesis Therapy)
2) Virechana (Purgation Therapy)
3) Basti (Enema Therapy)
4) Nasya (Nasal Administration)
5) Raktamokshana (Bloodletting)
According to Dr Pandey, some people prefer to do it during monsoon due to the “increased humidity and cooler weather”, which can be beneficial for the body during the detox process.
Recently, Mira had also penned a note reminiscing about her family vacation in the hills. “I’ve taken some time off Instagram – well I’ve been on it, posting stories here and there, but I just wanted a break from the pressure of posting. Not like anybody is expecting a post, but one gets into a cycle of feeling the need to keep posting about what’s going on in life on social media. At least I did, and I thought I’d enjoy the summer without that pressure. Whenever I felt like it I would go ahead, but there was no compulsion,” she wrote.
