BITS students in Goa vacate campus after jaundice outbreak

Students of Birla Institute of Technology and Science in south Goa have been asked to vacate the campus after an outbreak of jaundice in which 47 of them were affected.

Students of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) in south Goa have been asked to vacate the campus after an outbreak of jaundice in which 47 of them were affected.

The campus located at Sancoale village houses the main institute as also the hostel facility and about 2,400 students study here,a BITS spokesman said.

“We have suspended classes till October 11 as a precautionary measure. It being the festival time,students can go to their native places,” R P Pradhan,public relations officer,BITS,told this morning.

The state health authorities have dispatched a team of medical officers to the campus.

Director of health service Rajnanda Desai said that an enquiry is on and the management has been advised to vaccinate students for hepatitis.
