“Every day, as my body gracefully adapts to the incredible changes of pregnancy, I find solace and strength through the practice of prenatal yoga. What makes this journey even more profound is that my loving husband, a trained yoga teacher, serves as my guiding light. His presence brings an unmatched sense of comfort and expertise as we embark on this transformative path together,” Aashka wrote in the caption of a video posted on Instagram, which shows her doing forward bends, pushups, and downward poses as Brent is seen guiding her.

“Through the gentle stretches, soothing breathwork, and mindful movements of prenatal yoga, I connect intimately with my evolving body, cherishing and accepting each new shift as a testament to the miracle of life within me,” added the 37-year-old.

She stated that with her husband’s “unwavering support”, she has been embracing “these daily changes with a profound sense of gratitude and self-love”. “Prenatal yoga has become a sacred sanctuary where I cultivate not only physical well-being but also a deep sense of connection to my baby and my own inner strength. I am truly blessed to have my husband by my side, guiding me through this extraordinary journey with boundless love and wisdom. Feeling humble and grateful,” she wrote.

Previously too, she wrote about how prenatal yoga has come to her aid. “Prenatal Yoga. It helps the mom-to-be and the baby – happy mom, happy baby. Conscious movement in and throughout pregnancy is important unless you have any complications or are advised rest by a medical professional,” she said.

Why do prenatal yoga?

Dr Shobha Gupta, medical director and IVF specialist from Mother’s Lap IVF Centre, New Delhi and Vrindavan stated that prenatal yoga is great for expectant mothers since it “encourages relaxation, flexibility, focus, and deep breathing”. “By claiming both the body and the mind, deep relaxation helps to relieve tension and anxiety while promoting a condition of balance. Since stress and worry weaken the immune system, this calming effect normally helps to support and promote the immune system,” said Dr Gupta.

Dr Gupta advised that one should try practicing yoga to unwind, realign their pelvis, and improve blood circulation. “Certain poses can also help promote childbirth by increasing blood flow to your pelvis, stimulating hormone-producing glands, and easing muscle tension,” said Dr Gupta.

Dr Sushma Tomar, consultant, obstetrician, and gynaecologist, Fortis Hospital, Kalyan told indianxpress.com that during the third trimester, pelvic exercises are a must to relax pelvic muscles and get them ready to bear down during delivery. “In the first trimester, because there is a risk of abortion, we have to do very mild exercise if there is no lower abdominal pain, bleeding, or white discharge. If a woman has a previous history of early pregnancy abortion, then it is advised to avoid much exercise,” mentioned Dr Tomar.
