How many calories burn in a single shopping trip? The jury’s out on this but we don’t need figures to realise that the more we buy, the hungrier we seem to get. Isn’t it a stroke of good luck, then, that the India International Trade Fair also offers a feast for rumbling stomachs, and the fare this year includes some unusual items. The gelateria and yogurtaria Cherry Fresh is dishing out a variety of both, frozen and hot — the latter encompassing a coffee bar — desserts and drinks and the crowds jostling around its booth are a reliable guide to the popularity of its flavours.

Another brand, Brown Bite, is a nascent chocolatier that opened its first outlet in Lajpat Nagar a week ago and its pitch of “ayurvedic chocolates” is enough to make trolley pushers stop on their tracks. According to its promoters, these chocolates have ingredients ranging from dried fruits to spices to nuts and boast a host of restorative properties. These are already having a tidal effect on customers, thanks to “their obvious health benefits”.
