The Gourmet Studio: Take a culinary roller coaster ride at a bargain

The Gourmet Studio and Chef Dhruv Oberoi at the Olive Bar and Kitchen rustles up a tempting culinary landscape.

The festive season is here, which inevitably means lots of food. Joining in on the bandwagon of restaurants offering special deals during the Navratris, the Delhi Gourmet Studio and Nearbuy are back with The Gourmet Studio. This year it was chef Dhruv Oberoi who took us through a roller coaster of a six-course culinary landscape at just Rs 1,500 in the grandiose setting of the Olive Bar and Kitchen, Mehraulli.

Away from the city crowd, the exotic evening started with the Chef’s Amuse, which had a strong sweet and acidic flavour to refresh our tastebuds. This was followed up with an earthy starter of tenderloin carpaccio with melting goat cheese croquettes and caramelized walnuts.

Before our tastebuds could recover from the cheese croquettes, the pasta stuffed with ricotta and spinach tortellini had us falling in love all over again. Served with sautéed artichokes and pine nuts, the tasty and colourful platter was a feast for the eyes as well. This was accompanied by a snow-white, lime-flavoured sorbet that acted as a palate cleanser.


As we moved further, we were offered a choice of four main course options. We chose the pave of baked vegetable tartiflette. Pressed seasonal vegetable gratin, served with whipped creamy polenta and broccoli florets was topped with strong flavour of red pepper coulis. The polenta’s neutral flavour created a perfect balance on the palate.

The final offering of the evening was the highlight as well — dessert! Vanilla pudding served with wine poached pear, honeycomb, apricot jelly and pear sorbet. The sweet and sour flavours, coupled with the broken meringue had us making plans to revisit the restaurant soon.
