In the hustle and bustle of the party season, planning a get-together can be both exciting and a bit overwhelming. While inviting friends and family to your home is always joyful, figuring out what appetisers to serve can be a real head-scratcher. It’s a creative challenge to decide on dishes that are not only new and fun but also effortlessly tasty.

Recognising the need for quick and impressive treats, chef Pankaj Bhadouria recently shared five mouthwatering party starters to up your hosting game and ensure your guests savour every bite.

Pav Bhaji Fondue

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
Serves: 3-4

Ingredients

  • 1 boiled potato, cucumber, carrot, radish sticks
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 cheese slices
  • 1 tbsp pav bhaji masala
  • 6 pav
  • ¼ cup tomato puree
  • Salt to taste
  • ½ tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 3 tbsp butter

Method

  1. Melt butter in a pan, add red chilli powder and tomato puree, cook for 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add pav bhaji masala, salt, and grated boiled potato.
  3. Add half a cup of water, bring the sauce to a boil.
  4. Add cheese slices and milk, mix well.
  5. While the sauce cooks, toast pav, chop into small pieces, and serve on wooden skewers.

Mint Pea Crostini

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
Serves: 3-4

Ingredients

  • 6 bread slices
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 2 tbsp mint leaves
  • 2 tbsp cheese spread
  • 1 tsp red chilli flakes
  • Salt to taste
  • Butter as required
  • Mint leaves to garnish

Method

  1. Cut bread into small pieces, toast with butter.
  2. Blend peas, mint leaves, salt, and cheese spread into a paste.
  3. Decorate crisp bread with the pea mixture.
  4. Garnish with chilli flakes and mint leaves.

Pull-Apart Garlic Bread

Serves: 3-4

Ingredients

  • 1 garlic bread loaf
  • 1 cup shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 50 g butter, softened
  • 2 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped

Method

  1. Make slant cuts on garlic bread, fill with grated cheese.
  2. Bake until cheese melts.
  3. Brush with melted garlic butter (garlic, salt, parsley, and butter).

Cheese Balls

Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 5 minutes
Serves: 3-4

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup flour, 1 big pack Monaco Biscuits
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 4 cheese cubes
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Basil leaves
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Mayonnaise to serve

Method

  1. Melt butter, add flour, toast until fragrant.
  2. Add milk, cook into a thick sauce, let it cool.
  3. Add more flour, corn flour, salt, pepper, and red chilli flakes, form a dough.
  4. Chop cheese cubes, place in small dough balls, coat with breadcrumbs, and fry.
  5. Serve on toothpicks decorated with cherry tomatoes and basil leaves.

Palak Paneer Balls

Serves: 3-4

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch spinach leaves, cleaned
  • 200g paneer
  • ¼ cup breadcrumbs
  • Salt to taste
  • ¼ cup corn flour
  • Pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp red chili flakes
  • Oil to fry
  • Sweet Chili Sauce to serve

Method

  1. Wash and chop spinach leaves, mix with grated paneer, salt, pepper, chilli flakes, breadcrumbs, and corn flour.
  2. Shape into marble-sized balls.
  3. Coat with maida and fry.
